Events and Performances

As its name suggests, this section contains artworks produced in the context of events and performances, generally in public.

In fact, Jean-François Racine participated in his first live painting event at Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup at the age of 17. He was then studying graphic design and specializing mainly in illustration. The adrenaline of jumping into the void and the unpredictable results of these artistic performances, performed in front of an audience in a limited time, were a revelation for the young painter. The sale of the artworks at auction nailed the show.

For several years, Jean-François made several paintings live in Rimouski, Quebec and Montreal. He also contributed to the organization of several other events in Baie-Saint-Paul. It is undoubtedly in this way that the young artist developed his skills and his ease in painting in public.

Over time, symposiums and galleries filled the painter's agenda. Performances of this nature have mostly become charity events. One of the most memorable is undoubtedly having painted for 24 hours during the 24h Tremblant. As a result, a work of six feet by twelve feet was sold at auction for an amount of $25,000 for the benefit of the Fondation Charles-Bruneau.

Racine would later paint more in the mountains and develop live painting below zero degrees. The skier painter will produce dozens of works across Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.

Throughout all these years, Racine has continued to get involved and support various causes in his own way, mainly in the health and education sectors. Between 2010 and 2020, Jean-François participated in several symposiums across Quebec and had the chance to act as Honorary President for some of them, including the most prestigious artistic events in the province.

In 2017, Jean-François produced a giant work at the Baie-Saint-Paul Contemporary Art Symposium. This work was a nod to the funfair and stilt walkers: in short, a nod to the local event culture. The idea of a life-size work was to take a selfie and relive the era for those who knew it. Lately, this work will have known a new life in the Festival de Cirque des Îles. Whether it's painting with animals to help the Eskaringa circus and the Charlevoix SPCA or to create works during great events, Jean-François Racine always seems ready to take up the challenge!
